The day before Thanksgiving my two year old Black Lab, Happy, had a tumor removed from his jaw. Later, the tumor was found to be malignant. On December 11, 2013 a thorough examination at Cornell University Companion Animal Hospital disclosed that Happy had melanoma, and that the melanoma had metastasized to his lungs causing numerous tumors. After consultation it became apparent that no possible treatment offered a decent probability of extending his life. He was given 2 – 4 weeks. He is now in his 4th week and showing no signs of discomfort or pain. He is off his prior diet and now receives two meals of steak and eggs each day. He is enjoying his new diet, and I am cherishing each additional day that I have with him.
