This is what’s happening.

New for the Christmas 2016 season, A CHRISTMAS VISITOR and A CHRISTMAS PASSAGE, published previously in paperback will be coming out with newly designed covers in e-book format. This is the beginning of the roll-out of a series of Christmas novels written by George Samerjan and David Saperstein UPRIVER: An ancient prophecy brings together American adventurers, Jihadists, lost suitcase nuclear weapons, and looted antiquities in a remote jungle is under submission to publishers. My agent has three novels on her desk to review. These three novels were significantly rewritten based on her prior review and comments. FROM THE SHADOWS AND LONG WAY HOME were both expanded to 60,000 words. TWELVE LETTERS: Twelve wartime letters from a soldier to his younger brother dramatically change his life. .FROM THE SHADOWS: A young man survives in the wilderness with the aid of a reclusive veteran while coping with the murder of his family. LONG WAY HOME: Brian McAfee, twenty eight, former staff sergeant in the New York National Guard, a veteran of two tours of duty in Iraq, sits in a lawn chair behind his house drinking Bourbon. He and his wife Barbara argue viciously over his not having “gotten over the war.” Brian knows at that moment it is time to take his own life to end his pain, and set his family free. Brian drives to Speculator. He will visit a fallen comrade’s grave before he kills himself. Barbara finds a note that Brian left. Instantly, she knows what he is about to do, and where he is going. She gets in her car and speeds after him. What follows is a tale of supernatural intervention redeeming the soul of a combat veteran. And, THE BOOK OF GEORGE, a collection of poems I’ve written since 1963 now totals 2,488 poems. I’ve got 3,000 poems in my sight. And work continues on a satirical novel about a self-proclaimed oracle on a quest through time and space. This book is currently at 60,000 words.

LONG WAY HOME

Work continues on the rewrite (expansion) of LONG WAY HOME. It is now 20,000 words longer than the last version. What has been added to the book is the back story of what the protagonist’s life was like before he went to war – the stasis of his life before the challenge that coming home from war would provide.. The story has also seen an expansion of the role one other character to a much larger proportion. I hope to have this version complete and off to the agent within a few weeks.

New Novel – Satirical Look at Contemporary America

I just sent the first three chapters of my new, satirical novel to my literary agent to get her reaction. The working draft is complete at 326 pages, but I now have to go back and completely flesh out each of the 21 chapters. A very well known author, screenwriter, director read the first chapter of the new satirical novel I’m working on. His comment was “interesting, held attention, more poetry than prose.” Now, all I have to do is finish this working draft. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Update

The working draft of a new, satirical novel – a look at 21st century culture and society in the United States, is at 300 pages. Now I’m focusing on the continuity across the chapters and the depth of each chapter.
UPRIVER, TWELVE LETTERS, and FROM THE SHADOWS are in play with my agent. I had to take a break from working on the current novel so I built a doll house for the granddaughter of my next door neighbor. It took about ten days of detail oriented work which cleaned the cobwebs and got me ready to go back to work on the new novel.

A CHRISTMAS PASSAGE and A CHRISTMAS VISITOR make great reading for the holiday ses

New Work – A Very Productive 1st Half of the Year

The first half of the year has been extremely productive. UPRIVER – An ancient prophecy comes true when American adventurers, Jihadists, lost nuclear weapons, and stolen antiquities converge in a remote jungle. TWELVE LETTERS – Twelve wartime letters from a soldier to his younger brother dramatically change his life. FROM THE SHADOWS – A young man survives in the wilderness with the aid of a reclusive veteran whom the young man aids in finding redemption for a wartime act. UPRIVER and TWELVE LETTERS are with my literary agent. She now has the synopsis for FROM THE SHADOWS. UPRIVER is a new novel. Both TWELVE LETTERS and FROM THE SHADOWS are extensive rewrites of previous versions. Tomorrow it’s back to continuing work on a 21st century satirical novel.

New Novels

My literary agent is circulating UPRIVER to publishers. I also sent her TWELVE LETTERS (Twelve wartime letters from a soldier to his younger brother dramatically change his life). The prior version of this novel was 37,000 words. It is now 60,000 words.

And, last night I completed the working draft rewrite/expansion of FROM THE SHADOWS. The basic story remains the same – a young man survives in the wilderness with the aid of reclusive veteran while coping with the murder of his family – but, there is a dramatic new ending which really pulls tight the story threads in an unpredictable conclusion. I like the way it turned out. Now, I have 16,000 more words to go to really polish it up and finish it. The added length, and distance in time since I wrote the earlier version gave me an opportunity to emphasize certain things and add new things.
